Kitchen Design - Stylish or Functional?

As a designer for the past ten years, I am constantly faced with the same question when I am working on a kitchen design. Should this one be functional, or should it look incredible. Problem is, that most designers think that same way! As if it can only be one or the other. Believe it or not, you really can have both and I'm going to share with you the secret to how to have your cake and eat it too. As a male designer, I have found that my tendency always leans towards the functional. Don't get me wrong, I would love to design a beautiful kitchen as well, but the fact of the matter is, I still need my wife to help me get dressed in the morning to ensure that I don't leave the house in clothes that don't match. So when you are at your local kitchen design center and your sitting with the designer, don't be embarrassed to ask if their kitchens are generally on the fancy side, or more on the functional side. Most designers shouldn't have a problem letting you know which category they fall into. The other half of that equation is to understand which category you fall into. Most of my customers over the years were married couples and the wife was usually more "fancy" while the husband was more functional .... assuming he had a say in the matter! So if you feel like you have a pretty good idea of what you want your kitchen to look like, you would do best to find a designer who can make sure your visual is also functional. Since that's where my strengths were, I found that many of my "stylish" customers were very impressed with my ability to create different layouts that utilized their space in ways they never would have thought of themselves. Then when they would ask me my opinion on stain color, or granite choice, I'd usually reply with a comment such as; "Do you see how I'm dressed? Are you sure you want the opinion of a guy who obviously has zero fashion sense?" That would usually make them laugh in appreciation of my honesty. It also reinforced the confidence level in themselves, as decision makers, when it came to the look of the kitchen, as well as their confidence in me, as the person in charge of making sure their layout worked best for their needs. Little things like whether you're right handed or left handed are important facts to consider when designing a functional kitchen.

So whether you're a functional, mathematician with no ability to match your shoes to your shirt, or you're a fashion conscious nut, who couldn't change a flat tire if your life depended on it, the perfect kitchen designer is somewhere out there just waiting for you to sit down and design the kitchen of your dreams with them.

Designing Your Own Kitchen

I am planning on designing my kitchen and I will be planning on buying Kitchen Cooker's to match my stove and refrigerator. I do have some kitchen cooker's but they are mix match and different color's, so I would like some idea's on new brand's for kitchen cooker for my kitchen. I would like to have a toaster, coffee maker, blender, crock pot, and maybe a grill skillet, and I want all of these to be the same color to match my stove, microwave, and refrigerator and the three are white colored.

I would like to know what would be the best brands to buy kitchen cooker's for my kitchen, since my kitchen is pretty small yet really cozy, and somewhat attached to my living room. I also have a little dining area facing my kitchen and as anyone enters my apartment my kitchen is facing my front door. The kitchen counter's are small but yet I do have space for some kitchen cooker's.

I have my living room couches a maroon color with dark brown coffee table and end tables, and maroon colored curtains with white. This is the reason I would like to design my kitchen so that everything can match in my apartment, with all of my kitchen cooker appliances. I would like to also get a small dining table black with white chairs so that this would also match my kitchen cooker appliances, I would like for everything to look cozy and fresh looking, maybe I will also get some plant's for my living room, but right now I am only thinking of designing my kitchen with new kitchen cooker appliances to go with everything in my kitchen. Is it possible to also paint the counter tops white? because this would also look so nice in my kitchen, having everything white, is what I would like for everything in my kitchen to look.
